Haas Center for Public Service: Stanford University - 3 Week Service Learning Trip
The Haas Center for Public Service provides resources for students to learn about and be directly engaged in domestic and international service. In response to an increasing student demand for international opportunities, the Haas Center partnered with FSD to establish Service Learning Trips to Bolivia, Nicaragua, and Uganda. The program offers academic credit and supplies inexperienced undergraduates with one full quarter of on-campus preparatory training, three weeks of project work in the field with FSD, and post trip debriefing sessions on-campus. Students who demonstrate financial need are supported by a grant from the Stanford Fund.
Students are placed in groups of 12 and work in the field with FSD for three weeks. Group projects support short term, high impact outcomes in health, human rights, microfinance, and other community development issues. FSD works in collaboration with the Haas Center in the vetting of applicants along with the on-campus training to ensure that students understand how to work effectively as a group in a developing community.
