Morehead-Cain Foundation: University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill - 10 Week Intern Abroad Program
The Morehead-Cain Foundation provides full four-year scholarships to students from the University of
North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The fellowship includes a Summer Enrichment Program dedicated to exposing
students to global issues and social activism. Since 2001, the Morehead-Cain Foundation’s Summer
Enrichment Program has used FSD’s Intern Abroad Program to
supply more than 40 students with hands-on international development experience.
In the last two years, two FSD alumni from the Morehead-Cain Foundation received Rhodes Scholarships to continue their international studies at Oxford University. Several other scholars have also used their FSD experience to catalyze career pursuits and graduate studies related to their global values.
The Morehead-Cain Foundation reserves five to ten individual placements in our Intern Abroad program each year. Scholars apply for these placements by completing the FSD program application four to five months prior to departure. FSD then works directly with the Foundation to assess whether each scholar can meet the challenges of the Intern Abroad program. Scholars accepted into our program are then given various training resources through FSD and the Foundation to be optimally prepared for the field. Once scholars complete their 10 week internship with FSD, they meet with the Morehead-Cain Foundation to process their experience in the field. Scholars are strongly encouraged to continue their advocacy efforts by building awareness in their community about the issues they faced abroad.
