Organization Objectives
RUSH was founded in
2001 with the primary goal of implementing behavioral change. The organization
seeks to improve the health, living conditions, and future prospects of men,
women, and children in Kakamega through a wide range of community projects. It aims
to:
- Encourage self reliance in
communities by partnering with them to identify needs and resources, and implement
relevant strategies
- Promote youth through
high-quality primary education, youth group activities, vocational
training, and a support network
- Empower women through
business training, support, and micro-loans
- Fight HIV/AIDS through accurate
information dissemination, home-based care, and emotional support to those
affected by HIV/AIDS
- Promote emotional and mental
health through compassion, the development of a strong support network,
and free therapy sessions
Program Information
1. Feeding Program
This program is
related to RUSH’s Home-Based Care (HBC) plan which provides medical care to
persons living with HIV/AIDS who are unable to make hospital visits. While many
patients benefit from government-subsidized antiretroviral drugs (ARVs), the efficacy of this treatment is greatly reduced if
it is not supplemented with proper nutrition. For many of the group’s
HIV-positive members, RUSH’s feeding program plays an important role in providing
the additional nutrition required to support the therapy.
