Constructing Clean Water Systems in Masaka, Uganda | APPLY NOW

WHAT: Masaka district exemplifies the devastating effects of the water crisis in Uganda, which has left millions of children and adults without access to safe drinking water. In Masaka, infectious diseases, especially those that are water borne, are still the number one killer of children under the age of five. Through facilitating workshops focused on simple and effective sanitation practices, and supporting the design and construction of rainwater harvesting tanks, ProCorps Volunteers will help to increase community awareness of the importance of hygiene while providing a vital clean water supply during dry weather seasons.

WHERE: ProCorps volunteer(s) selected for this assignment will be based out of Masaka, Uganda and work in close collaboration with local FSD Partner NGO, Community Health Empowerment Development Relief Agency (CHEDRA).

A GOOD CANDIDATE: CHEDRA seeks consultants who have the expertise necessary to construct rainwater harvesting tanks and those who can audit existing equipment for efficiency testing. Designing and Introducing Safe Cook Stoves in Masaka, Uganda | APPLY NOW

WHAT: A major challenge facing communities in Masaka, Uganda is the large consumption of wood used for cook stoves, which releases toxic indoor fumes and puts women and children at a disproportionately grave risk for acute respiratory, cardiovascular and ocular diseases. Through the construction of safe, energy efficient stoves, this project aims to improve public health and the overall quality of life for women and children, and their families throughout Masaka.

WHERE: ProCorps volunteer(s) selected for this assignment will be based out of Masaka, Uganda and work in close collaboration with local FSD Partner NGO, Community Health Empowerment Development Relief Agency (CHEDRA).

A GOOD CANDIDATE: CHEDRA seeks consultants who have the expertise necessary to construct cook stoves/and or can recommend methods to improving the efficiency of existing equipment. Evaluation and Upgrade of Water Harvesting Tanks in Masaka, Uganda | APPLY NOW

WHAT: The water crisis in Uganda has left millions of children and adults without access to safe drinking water. Residents of Luteete village travel over two kilometers to fetch water from a well, which is contaminated from use by both human and animals. ProCorps Volunteers will work to train members of this village in appropriate technology in water harvesting, using locally available materials to ensure the sustainability of the project.

WHERE: ProCorps volunteer(s) selected for this assignment will be based out of Masaka, Uganda and work in close collaboration with local FSD Partner NGO, Luteete Twekulakulanye Demonstration Center.

Women's Empowerment/Gender Equity in Masaka, Uganda | APPLY NOW

WHAT: Volunteers will work with Get Smart, an informal association of several women’s groups operating within the Kingo, Uganda sub-county. Volunteers will work to achieve Get Smart’s objectives of improving the standard of living of women living in the surrounding area and encouraging these women to participate in both government and non-governmental programs that are for the benefit of women. Volunteers will create materials highlighting the need for women’s empowerment, design activities to encourage women to become active decision makers, and encourage young women to become leaders in their communities.

WHERE: FSD ProCorps volunteers will be working with Get Smart in Kingo, Uganda.

A GOOD CANDIDATE: Volunteers interested in this opportunity should have experience conducting trainings or seminars, familiarity with empowerment methods, and the ability to communicate effectively.

Reproductive Health in Jinja Uganda | APPLY NOW

WHAT: FSD ProCorp volunteers will work in collaboration with St. Francis Health Care Services’ Adolescent Reproductive Health Forum to promote confidential information sharing on reproductive health issues and other private matters for those in the in the early reproductive age range: 18 – 25. Many individuals in this age range have never used a computer nor have they found it to be relevant tool or communication medium. The health forum focuses on improving their use of computers and internet search skills to access reproductive health information.

WHERE: FSD ProCorp volunteers will work in collaboration with the St. Francis Healthcare Services in Jinja, Uganda.

A GOOD CANDIDATE:Those interested in this program should have an ability to teach nonusers how to use a computer, navigate the internet, and to access web forums.In addition, volunteers must have a positive and flexible approach to teaching adolescent reproductive health keeping in mind the students will have a different cultural context than their own.

Maternal Health in Masaka, Uganda | APPLY NOW

WHAT: Volunteers will work in collaboration with the Ugandan Development and Health Associates (UDHA), which as adapted a Community Health Worker (CHW) program proven to improve maternal and newborn health, empower families to make informed healthcare decisions and adopt beneficial maternal and newborn home healthcare practices. FSD volunteers will carry out an evaluation of the CHW program's successes and failures to facilitate better intervention strategies. They will also provide continuous mentorship of the CHW, health workers and project staff on maternal and child health issues. In addition, work on the database used to capture monthly data must be audited to ensure data consistency and quality for easier and more accurate performance tracking.

WHERE: The communities of Maina and Girigiri-Busu of Jinja, Uganda identified maternal and newborn illness and death as serious problems that negatively impact the entire community.

A GOOD CANDIDATE: Volunteers interested in this program should have a solid background in maternal and child health, public health, anthropology or a related field. Volunteers must be self-motivated, willing to work without much supervision, and possess a basic level of understanding for data management, monitoring and evaluation. Good interpersonal skills are necessary as well as a willingness to learn the local language "Lusoga."

Marketing Plan for Vital Health Services in Ciudad Sandino, Nicaragua | APPLY NOW

WHAT: MASINFA is a community organization that provides services addressing disparities in education, housing, nutrition, and health. The MASINFA clinic, CIPO, is currently struggling reach clients in Masaya, and is working on an initiative to reach more people in the community. Through the development of a marketing plan, ProCorps Volunteers will play an important role in helping CIPO serve more people and increase the sustainability of their services.

WHERE: ProCorps volunteer(s) selected for this assignment will be based out of Masaya near Ciudad Sandino, Nicaragua, with local FSD Partner NGO, Masaya Sin Fronteras (MASINFA).

A GOOD CANDIDATE: MASINFA seeks consultants with experience in marketing, publicity, and/or financial analysis. Are you willing to work in semi-urban communities? Can you handle working in a different culture as part of a cross-cultural team? Do you possess marketing skills? Individuals, couples, and colleagues are encouraged to apply. Computer Training and Support in Tola, Nicaragua | APPLY NOW

WHAT: Recently, over 80 used Apple computers were donated to the rural communities of Limon 1, Limon 2, and Las Salinas. They have been installed in special rooms and have all of the necessary equipment and wiring. However, they lack basic applications and local teachers do not know how to use them. Thus, the computers sit unused in locked rooms. Through a project that includes setting up the computers with basic software, facilitating workshops for teachers on how to use the computers, and empowering local computer-savvy youth, ProCorps Volunteers will effectively bring computer access to rural schools.

WHERE: ProCorps volunteer(s) selected for this assignment will be based in the communities of Limon 1, Limon 2, or Las Salinas, in the county of Tola, in the department of Rivas, Nicaragua. They will work in close collaboration with local FSD Partners, public elementary, middle, and high schools in Limon 1, Limon 2, and Las Salinas.

A GOOD CANDIDATE: The public schools of Tola seek consultants who have experience in computer support and training. Are you willing to work in rural communities? Can you handle working in a different culture as part of a cross-cultural team? The intern should have at least a basic level Spanish.

Building Administrative Capacity for Microenterprises in Tola, Nicaragua | APPLY NOW

WHAT: The county seat of Tola City is home to numerous small businesses and social enterprises. Many of these organizations are supported by La Casa de la Mujer (Women´s House), which, in addition to offering advocacy and legal services for women, runs programs to encourage entrepreneurship. The small businesses in Tola would benefit greatly from training on administrative and operational functions with basic business concepts and tools. Through facilitating workshops on strategic and organizational planning, marketing, and basic accounting systems, ProCorps Volunteers would help small business owners and cooperatives strengthen their bottom line and assure sustainability.

WHERE: ProCorps volunteer(s) selected for this assignment will be based in the city of Tola, in the department of Rivas, Nicaragua. They will work in close collaboration with local FSD Partner, La Casa de la Mujer (Women´s House).

Fundraising and Financial Development Support in Rivas, Nicaragua | APPLY NOW

WHAT: Casa de la Mujer is a well respected, long-standing organization that works towards gender equity and human rights.  It offers important and critical services and programs for the communities of Rivas.  As a non-governmental organization and non-profit, Casa de la Mujer survives financially on relationships with foreign friends and other organizations.  Casa de la Mujer would greatly benefit from having someone come to work with them on grants, fundraising, and other creative methods to increase the financial stability of the organization that has become so important to the well being of women and children in Rivas.

Publicity Campaign for Educational NGO in Salta, Argentina | APPLY NOW

WHAT: FUCAS’ mission is to develop the potential and abilities of children, youth, and adults. Towards this end, FUCAS staff members lead programs aimed to raise self-esteem, improve family relations, and better the living conditions of its clients. Through projects that support FUCAS’ communication initiatives (such as a community radio show, a printing press cooperative, and a documentary), ProCorps Volunteers will increase community awareness of FUCAS’ services and help them to spread their message to more clients.

Youth Development and Education in Jinja, Uganda | APPLY NOW

WHAT: Currently, the Masese Child Development Centre (MCDC) is stocking the library with a variety of books - from children's books to trade and business books - to improve the overall literacy of the community. The library has grown popular with the community and the MCDC must establish a resource center to provide support for the new visitors. The resource center will include a computerized system to track and categorize the books as well as how to look up books of interest.

WHERE: FSD ProCorps volunteers will work in collaboration with the Masese Child Development Centre (MCDC) at the MCDC Children and Community Library in Jinja, Uganda.

A GOOD CANDIDATE: Volunteers for this project should have a general knowledge of how to set up computers, connect to the internet, and help teach the library staff how to manage and track the books.
