Organization Overview

Rural-Urban Initiative to Support Own Effort (RISE) serves a rural based, semi-illiterate, and predominantly agricultural community in the village of Mayuge, which is affected by poverty and HIV/ AIDS. Gender inequality is evident, effecting women and children negatively, and basic human rights are often abused. The organization aims to inform the public about health issues such as HIV/AIDS and malaria, to offer training on appropriate argricultural practices, to promote environmental protections, and to encourage financial savings.

TASO strives to improve the lives of those affected by HIV/AIDS as part of the larger effort to address the world’s AIDS pandemic. It promotes prevention, hope restoration, and general support physically and emotionally to its clients.

Organization Overview

TASO Masaka was started in 1998, initially with very few clients. As of 2008, its clientele has increased to several thousand people, indicating that the HIV/AIDS community is willingly seeking services in counseling, medical treatment, and social support. Today, TASO is the largest indigenous NGO providing HIV/AIDS services in Uganda. TASO’s values include the obligation to support people infected and/or affected by HIV/AIDS; equal rights, shared responsibility, and equal opportunities; integrity; family spirit; and the promotion of human dignity.

COTFONE aims to support underprivileged children and community members to live a better life and to achieve their full potential. The organization uses a holistic approach by targeting vulnerable children, their households and communities as parts of their activities.

Organization Overview

Community Transformation Foundation Network (COTFONE) was established in 2003 with the aim to assist the voiceless vulnerable orphaned and underprivileged children whose parents had died from HIV/AIDS as well as those parents that had died in previous decades of political turmoil in Uganda. Additionally, the organization seeks to help the children whose parents are unable to provide for schooling due to poverty. Founded by, Kayinga Muddu Yisito, an orphan himself, COTFONE has already made a large impact on the communities it serves due to dedication and hard work by all its members.

Get Smart aims to encourage women to work hand-in-hand together, in order to create plenty of resources, become educated and eradicate poverty.

Organization Overview

The founders of Get Smart, Charles Mubiru and his colleagues, established this organization because they felt that the area of Kingo needed support in terms of microfinance, environment and gender equality. They witnessed success stories of small groups of people forming up to solve problems, and based on that, they formed this organization, which continues to grow in size. The organization concentrates on at risk community members, focusing on women, children and at risk individuals.

Birimuya’s mission is to provide quality early childhood education to the children of Nyendo, through reading, writing, voluntary service work, and parental education and engagement.

The organization was formed to provide quality early childhood education in the Masaka municipality, serving children 3-6 years of age. The organization engages with parents as well teaching them about safety and child nutrition. It is funded by local community members and friends of the kindergarten.

Kidron Valley Ministries (KIVAM) strives to meet the immediate needs of vulnerable children and orphans affected by HIV and AIDS, through the provision of food, shelter, clothing, education, and health care.

Yiga Okola Women’s Group seeks to assist women and children to empower themselves to live a better and fuller life. The organization sees women as the backbone of society and thus promotes income generating activities, trainings and skills acquisition, and advocacy of human rights. They also give educational support to orphans and vulnerable children and help communities at large.

Organization Overview

Yiga Okola Women’s Group is a Community Based Organization in Kyanamukaaka sub-county Masaka District. It was founded in 1985 and was registered as a community based organization. It was founded by a group of women who were greatly concerned with the difficult living conditions they were in, for example, low household incomes, poor basic health, ignorance related to human rights, among other factors. Their main objectives include helping women improve their lives and promoting child education.
