Satya (Social work Academy for action and protection of Truth and Yearning for its Anticipation) functions as a resource centre dedicated to the larger goals and objectives of the social sector. In an effort to uphold truth in all its endeavors and to facilitate human development for all strata of society, Satya An NGO operates through a set combination strategy including research, interpretation of findings, design of practical strategies, and effective implementation of their programs. More specifically, Satya directs its programs toward education, health, child welfare, and livelihood generation.
Satya’s core objective is to develop character and skills of all, thereby ensuring social justice, creating peace and harmony, and attaining a high level of human development.
1. Child Welfare
SATYA has developed a program called SURE that provides English and moral education to impoverished communities throughout Rajasthan. Through this program, SATYA hopes to supplement the laws passed by the Indian Government, namely through the Juvenile Justice Act and the Right to Education Act. Satya has launched the SURE program in Udaipur, with the goal of providing access to quality education in English for impoverished students, especially child laborers.
- Conduct impact assessments to determine the effectiveness of the SURE program
- Evaluate SURE activities to ensure high quality education; suggest and implement additional activities
- Conduct a needs assessment to determine another downtrodden community within Udaipur
- Individual must be self-directed and able to function in a less structured environment
- Strong communication and writing skills are essential
- Research experience, interest in human development and education, and/or volunteerism history with children preferable
- Willingness to travel overnight to head office in Jaipur
Program Supervisor (All Programs)
Interns are directly supervised by R. S. Dhakar, a member of Child Welfare Committee Udaipur. Dhakar is also an advocate for Child Rights and You (CRY) - an NGO that catalyses change in the lives of underprivileged children in India by restoring their rights – which makes him a knowledgeable asset for Satya’s programs directed at children. The head supervisor in Jaipur and main contact for Satya is Dr. Sanjay Agarwal.
Satya’s primary location is in Jaipur, approximately 400 km from Udaipur. They are seeking to expand their activities into Udaipur, so a field office is not yet officially established. Though there’s a lax, informal office environment, interns are closely managed by a Satya employee in Udaipur. It’s recommended that interns bring their personal laptop for work-related tasks.
Satya has been active since 2001, and it was formally registered in 2004. Satya is presently working in the state of Rajasthan, with programs primarily based in the districts of Alwar, Jaipur, Kota, Ajmer, Udaipur, Dausa, Sawaimadhopur, and Tonk including the rural belts of Chomu and Chaksu. Satya has interacted with several institutions, including UNICEF, UNFPA, World Bank, and Asia Development Bank. It also recognizes collaboration with the Government of Rajasthan’s departments of police, health, rural development, panchayati raj, and several district administrations is vital.
