The Don Bosco Center Celebrates 13 Years

June 8th the NGO held festivities with their affiliated groups, “Bosco Children” and the “Bank of Good Faith” as well as the municipal government and various city institutions. The afternoon was cold but the warmth of the oven full of pizzas and empanadas for the 13 year celebration of the center gave the event a special flavor.

During the event we reviewed different events through the years of work and of our shared work. Reference was made to our achievements and uncertainties, taking into account the fact that we did not always have a response to the needs faced by the work. Through out the summation of all our pros and cons we were not without cake, candles and tasty treats prepared by the girls and boys of the catering company and background music provided by the rest of the young adults. A mini train took the young kids on a short ride through the neighborhood. They now have their own work: The Little Cooks (Tuesday) and Arts and Crafts (Fridays).

Among the special guests was Ariel Eure, an American intern in the center with FSD. She works helping teach English and conducts workshops about teen pregnancy for the girls and boys of Don Bosco. The Foundation made a very important and significant donation and collaboration with FSD has allowed the actions of the Don Bosco Center in this part of the world to be heard in the United States.

Together the coordinators of the NGO, Mirta Sosa, Patricia Ussomerl, and Silvana Trotta, and the president, Ana Pedrosa, expressed appreciation to all of those who attended to celebration. At the same time it was mentioned that during the Wine Festival Don Bosco will be present with a stand where visitors can taste the wonderful alfajores (a traditional pastry) that the children of the organization make.

After the closing music by Juan Mendivil, one of the boys of the Center, the attendees took their leave, each with a souvenir, as befits all good birthday parties. The Don Bosco Center, it is important to remember, is an NGO, who’s objective is to protect and support young people through workshops, craft courses and preventive actions. Under its direction also runs above the Bank of Good Faith, which provides microcredit loans to people with entrepreneurial aspirations and small business owners. To contact the center you can write to boscojoven@gmail.com. or call 464-4871.
