Fall 2007
FSD established partnerships with the
University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill, University of San Francisco, Emory University, and Duke University to provide over 45 fellowship opportunities for students to engage in development in Latin America, Africa, and Asia. Kate
Vyborny, a Foundation Fellow from University of Georgia and 2003 FSD summer intern in youth development in Ambato, Ecuador won a 2008 Rhodes Scholarship and will be attending Oxford University. Click here to read more.

Summer 2007
Justin
Eppley - founder of EdgeWise magazine and FSD intern Mombasa, Kenya - created an e-commerce website with his organization (LICODEP). The site allows local craftspeople to sell their high-quality goods directly to consumers around the world. To view Justin's website, click here.

Summer 2007
Lisa Zhu, a student at the University of Pennsylvania and an FSD summer intern in
Jinja, Uganda, worked with a local organization (ECOVIC) and the Ugandan Fisheries Development (UFD) to start an eco-tourism business on Lake Victoria. To read an article written in a local Ugandan newspaper about Lisa's work, click here.

Summer 2007
FSD announces two new partnerships for summer 2007 with
Gettysburg College and Northwestern University. Students from these two schools will spend their summers in Nicaragua (Gettysburg) and Uganda (Northwester) after spending the semester learning about development issues and their host country. Click on the schools to get more information about each partnership.

May 2007
FSD was recently mentioned in a USA today article, which outlined why an international internship can be an excellent career investment. "Career-planning experts say such experience is an increasingly popular way to get "résumé radiance." Because 84% of college students say they'll do
at least one internship before graduating, many now aim to distinguish themselves with experience tailored to a global economy." Click here to read more.

April 2007
Keren G. Raz, a 2005 graduate of University of Arizona and 2003 FSD summer intern in Puno, Peru, won a Root-Tilden-Kern scholarship to New York University School of Law. The full-tuition scholarship is awarded each year to 20 incoming students who intend to pursue careers in public service.

April 2007
Morgan
Alen will enter the American University Washington College of Law’s class of ’10 with a Public Interest/ Public Service (PIPS) Scholarship. This is a three year, full scholarship to law school. Morgan served as an FSD Program Coordinator in Bolivia, Argentina and Uganda.

March 26, 2007
Maital Friedman, a graduating senior from Princeton University and 2005 FSD summer intern in Mbale, Uganda, received the Henry Richardson Labouisse '26 Prize. The $25,000 fellowship will support Maital for 12 months in Mbale, while she further develops the library she built at a local school with FSD. Click here to read more.

February 20, 2007
Elan Emmanuel, a law student at the University of California, Berkeley received an internship at the Office of the Prosecutor at the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda. Elan served as a 2006 intern and Program Coordinator for FSD in Kakamega, Kenya - an experience that deepened his commitment to human rights efforts in Africa.

Adrian Johnston, a Morehead fellow from University of North Carolina and 2003 FSD summer intern in human rights in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, has won a Rhodes
Scholarship to Oxford University in England. Click here to read more.

Ben
Lundin, a graduating senior from University of North Carolina and 2004 FSD summer intern in Puno, Peru, has won a 2007 Rhodes Scholarship to Oxford University in England. He will study international relations at Oxford and further build on the international experience he gained through FSD . Click here to read more.

Eric
Leroux, an FSD summer 2005 intern in Kakamega, Kenya and All Ivy League Goalie at Princeton University received the Hockey Humanitarian Award. The award which recognizes an outstanding college hockey player for his or her strong commitment to community, team and academics. May 30, 2006
FRONTLINE - an award-winning PBS documentary show interviews the founder of The Aids Support Organization (TASO). When
Noerine Kaleeba founded TASO in 1987, it was the first HIV/AIDS NGO in Uganda. Today it is a thriving success story and one of FSD's host organizations in Mbale, Uganda. To read the interview, click here.

Sam
Watulatsu - the Uganda Program Director for FSD - wins the 2005 Brass Band World Award. He is the first African to win the prestigious award and will attend the ceremony in London, England. Sam is also the Executive Director of the Foundation for Development of Needy Communities (FDNC) - one of FSD's host organizations. FDNC that runs a skills development centre for female school drop outs, orphans and other needy children. To read the article, click here.

Johanna Matsui, a veteran of the
Summer 2005 Internship Program describes her work with Society for Orphans Against AIDS Network (SOAAN) in Mombasa, Kenya. The article is featured in the University of Pittsburgh's Graduate School of Public and International Affairs Winter Newsletter. To read the article, please click here.
