Project Title: Promoting Ecotourism
FSD Partner: Biosfera
Summary: Working with partner organization Biosfera, intern Carolyn Mansfield helped organize a conference promoting eco-tourism to local tourist agencies. Over 100 people attended, representing dozens of tourist agencies throughout the Buenos Aires Province.
Project Title: Health Risks in La Plata Population due to Climate Change Vulnerability
FSD Partner: Fundacion Biosfera
Summary: Working with partner organization Biosfera, intern Liza Lizarraga compiled data on major health risk factors that arise with flooding event in La Plata. With that information Liza was able to educate the community on precautions that should be taken before rainy season. The information was shared with the community through local media, a network of physicians and local community members who reach out via email.
Project Title: Research and Planning for Meetings on Climate Change
FSD Partner: Fundacion Biosfera
Summary: Lyly Njinga interned within the Climate Change Department at Fundacion Biosfera, an environmental NGO in La Plata, Argentina. Her duties included collaborating in the planning and research for a regional meeting of South American NGOs on climate change and environmental education. In preparation for the meeting, she researched and indentified current climate change issues and suggested actions for Argentina and South America. In addition, she prepared the application and documents required for the accreditation of Fundacion Biosfera with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). Along with assisting to events organized by Biosfera, she participated in local waste management related events, campaigns, and meetings with Fundacion Biosfera representatives.
