Peter's Story
Foundation for Sustainable Development (FSD) has transformed communities around the world, including my hometown of Shikokho, in Western Kenya.
I have witnessed this firsthand as the Program Director since 2005 at our site in Kakamega District, western Kenya, and I would like to share my defining moment.
When I visit Shikhoko Primary School, I encourage the children to work hard and take advantage of their education because it's the key to their future and to the future of Kenya. As a product of Shikhoko myself, it was this same seed of encouragement from my teachers and my community that helped me advance to higher education. This was my defining moment: Without education I don't know where I would be, which is why I passionately support the advancement of others within my community.
As FSD Kakamega's Program Director, I'm constantly reminded that change is hard. It ebbs and flows. But we have made some very important accomplishments, even though there is a long way to go. Six years ago I was working out of an Internet CafÉ and now we've spread to all corners of Kakamega District and supported over 30 community partners.
I invite you to watch this short video highlighting transformative projects which have provided my community with countless defining moments over the years.
We continue to remind our partners and our volunteers when you go to people, you should live with them, love them, learn from them. Start with what they know, build on what they have, and work with them so that when the work is done they will say, "We did this ourselves." These projects are perfect examples of this philosophy put into practice.
Despite the fact that you are not here physically, we are always happy to know you are on the same page and walk in spirit with us on this journey. We continue to value your support in all ways.
Become part of a community's defining moment - donate today.
Kwaheri,
Peter Khamusali Ingosi
Kakamega Program Director
