Organization Overview

The Committee of Parents with Disabled Children (CPDC), otherwise known as “Los Pipitos,” is a group dedicated to enriching the lives of disabled children and their parents. Los Pipitos is a Nicaraguan NGO that operates with both national and international support. It has 85 chapters throughout the country, including the departmental chapter in Rivas.

Programs

Programs and activities coordinated at a department level include attending to children and adults with diverse disabilities using various therapies to improve quality of life and providing technical training to children with disabilities (and their parents) so that family income is improved. (Examples of skills acquired through technical training are jewelry making and piñata crafting.) Other activities include, promotion of sports through an annual “Los Pipitos Olympics” competition and training parents on a variety of themes, such as early childhood stimulation, physical therapy and parenting skills specific to disabled children.
