Fellowships

We continually recieve interesting fellowship opportunities throughout the year and until now we have had no way of sharing them (...well, besides at the FSD Facebook Group). We are excited to have this new section of our website house all of the various opportunities that come through our door!

At this time because there is a limited number of opportunities listed, there is no order to the list of opportunities below. As the list grows we will give it more order, but until then, we hope you are as excited by these opportunities as we are.

Grassroots Development Fellowship
For candidates for Ph.D. degrees from United States universities as they conduct their dissertation research. IAF's Fellowships are intended to increase awareness of grassroots development efforts while building a community of professionals and scholars knowledgeable in the subject. Fellows examine the efforts of the rural and urban poor to improve their lives, their methods of organization and production, and the policies and programs designed to alleviate their poverty. The IAF disseminates research findings of its Fellows to a broad audience concerned with development.

Mind Trust Education Entrepeneur Fellowship
The Mind Trust's Education Entrepreneur Fellowship offers promising education entrepreneurs the opportunity to develop and launch their break-the-mold education ventures. To receive a Fellowship, an applicant must present a compelling plan with the potential to transform public education, and demonstrate the capability to carry it out. The Mind Trust will provide two years of salary ($90,000/year), benefits, and customized training so fellows have the support necessary to develop, build, and launch their initiatives in underserved communities.

Junior Professional Programs:

  • United Nations Junior Professional Program: The Junior Professional Officer (JPO) Programme provides young professionals pursuing a career in development with hands-on experience in multi-lateral technical co-operation (unfortuantely at this time these positions are not open to US citizens as the US is not a sponsoring government).
  • UNICEF Junior Professional Program: Along with vacancies, internships, and volunteer opportunities they also have a Junior Professionals Program that allows citizens of donor governments to gain professional experience with UNICEF (please note that as of 2008 the US was not a donor government).
  • World Bank Junior Professional Associate: two-year entry-level work experience in a multicultural environment that uses strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills, your knowledge of technology and the web, and your research abilities - working with more senior colleagues and project teams in their operational work. You'll have an opportunity to hone your skills and acquire new ones while gaining first-hand exposure to the challenges of development and poverty alleviation. Your experience as a JPA can then be used as a stepping stone to a career in government, consulting, the private sector, or academia.
  • Inter-American Development Bank: a starting point for careers at the Inter-American Development Bank. The program is designed for exceptionally qualified and motivated Junior Professionals.
