Internships: Spring and Summer Positions Open
Thank you for your interest in joining FSD's San Francisco team!
Please note that FSD offers a limited number of San Francisco intern and volunteer placements and we receive far more applications for each position than we can accept. We look for talented students and professionals who can work independently and effectively support FSD's growth. Because we invest significant staff time in making these placements a worthwhile experience for both you and FSD, we require a weekly time commitment of at least 16 hours and a total of 500 hours. Please note that applicants who can dedicate more time to FSD are considered more competitive candidates.
Positions are unpaid. When credit is available through your university, FSD is happy to assist with any reasonable requests related to obtaining credit.

Donor Relations Internship
The Donor Relations Intern will assist the Communications and Marketing team on a variety of initiatives to support and enhance donor relations and fund development. Preferred experience: Strong verbal and written communication skills; business or marketing experience a plus.
Duties include:
- Managing existing donor relations initiatives
- Supporting the creation of new donor cultivation activities
- Helping ideate and implement a donor reciprocity program
- Supporting campaign initiatives
- Other donor and fund development activities

University Outreach and Partner Relations Internship
We are seeking an intern to assist the International Programs staff in identifying and targeting universities (in the U.S. and abroad) for potential partnerships and for student recruitment to our volunteer programs. Preferred experience: Strong verbal and written communication skills; creativity; marketing experience a plus.
Duties include:
- Developing marketing approaches/strategies to establish new university partnerships
- Utilizing new channels to recruit students to FSD's programs
- Researching upcoming conferences and events at universities
- Assisting the Programs staff with other tasks as necessary

Marketing Internship
FSD seeks a marketing intern to assist in the execution and implementation of the organizational marketing and communications plan. The marketing intern assists in all departmental efforts that drive the organizational mission. Hours are flexible but 16-24 hours per week and a three to six month commitment is required.
Responsibilities include:
- Writing and editing blog posts, social media outreach, and electronic communication
- Coordinating distribution of print collateral
- Working closely with graphic design interns to produce marketing materials
- Managing monthly analytic dashboard reporting
- Researching the competitive set and consistently provide new ideas to our marketing efforts
- Managing FSD online postings
Qualifications:
- Strong writing skills required
- Enthusiastic self-starter
- Academic background and/or experience in marketing preferred
- Team player, flexible schedule, and punctual
- Demonstrated passion for global engagement programs preferred
- Seeking an individual looking to build on their current portfolio

Graphic Design Internship
FSD seeks a graphic design intern to assist the marketing and communications department with the development and execution of the marketing plan. This is an ideal position for someone who would like to build on their already impressive design portfolio. The graphic design intern's time will be focused in developing marketing materials used to support the organizational mission. Hours are flexible but 16-24 hours per week and a three to six month commitment is required.
Responsibilities include:
- Designing collateral materials, including: flyers, postcards, brochures, logos, and invitations.
- Creating digital content for fsdinternational.org, social media tools, and e-communication
- Managing aspects of distribution of communication vehicles
- organizing and continually updating photo library
Qualifications:
- Strong graphic design skills required; demonstrated proficiency in Adobe products including: Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign
- Enthusiastic self-starter who is a team player, flexible schedule, and punctual
- Academic background and/or experience in graphic design preferred

PR Internship
We are seeking a marketing, communications, or public relations student with a special interest in nonprofit communications. Preferred experience: Strong verbal and written communication skills; marketing experience a plus.
Duties include:
- Research press lists for print, broadcast, and electronic media
- Conceptualize stories for the above media
- Write pitch letters to the press
- Follow up with phone calls
- Other communications and marketing activities as needed

Social Media Internship
We are seeking a marketing or communications student with a special interest in social media. Preferred experience: Strong verbal and written communication skills; previous experience using social media for a company or nonprofit; creativity; marketing experience a plus.

- Writing and scheduling regular Facebook and Twitter posts
- Tracking FSD's social media presence and engagement for analysis
- Implementing social media strategies to increase the organization's visibility
- Maintaining a blog for the organization with meaningful and relevant content

Executive Assistant Internship
The Executive Assistant Intern will work with the Executive Director on a number of key organizational management projects, including partnership and grant-seeking research, as well as provide logistical support. Preferred experience: Administrative multi-tasking; professional verbal and written communications; online research; grant-seeking research. Details: to begin work February 2013; minimum of 16 hours per week for a total of 500 hours; unpaid.

International Programs Internship
The SF International Programs Intern (IPI), under the supervision of an International Programs Officer and in collaboration with the entire International Programs Team (IPT), provides support in a variety of programs-related projects. The IPI will be expected to provide programs and office operations support, and to collaborate with other interns and staff members. The IPI plays a key role in supporting a dynamic international development organization through facilitating communications, program coordination, and non-profit organization development. Strong written and oral communications skills, knowledge of computer programs required; experience in office administration and familiarity with international issues preferred.
Duties include:
- Assisting FSD staff in fielding email and telephone inquiries from interested students and professionals.
- Updating participant files and maintaining the participant database
- Office administration and operations support
- Grant review of proposals from the field

Translation Internship
The FSD Translation Intern (TI), under the supervision of an International Programs Officer and in collaboration with the entire International Programs Team (IPT), will focus on translating written materials between Spanish and English. The TI plays a key role in supporting a dynamic international development organization through facilitating communications, program coordination, and non-profit organization development. Spanish fluency and excellent writing skills in English and Spanish are required. Desired qualifications include university-level training in International Development, International Studies, Translation, or equal experience.
Duties include:
- Assisting FSD staff in translating written documents from English to Spanish and from Spanish to English.
- Collaborating with the Site Teams to ensure accuracy and relevance of vocabulary and documentation.
